MONTGOMERY:  On Monday, June 29, Alabama State Troopers arrested two suspects stemming from unrelated traffic collisions on Alabama roadways.

Jonathan Bradley Varner, 36, of San Marcos, Texas, was arrested and charged with Reckless Murder. The arrest stems from a fatal traffic crash in which Varner was involved on June 12. Varner was booked into the Elmore County Jail with a $15,000 bond.

“Alabama State Trooper Traffic Homicide Investigators (THI) have specialized skillsets and training that extends beyond standard accident investigations.  Treating the fatal collision as a crime scene, these investigators thoroughly examine and document the scene of a crash then reconstruct the crash to determine the factors in a fatal collision,” said Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier.  “Once the investigation is complete, THI will work closely with prosecutors to obtain applicable warrants for the arrest of suspects and will continue to assist throughout the prosecution.”

Keith Duane Bumpers, 42, of Mobile, who was driving under the influence, was charged with two counts first-degree Assault and one count third-degree Assault for a two-vehicle crash Jan. 30 on Newman Road in Mobile.  Bumpers was driving a 2014 Toyota Tundra on Newman Road that collided head-on with a 1991 Chevy GMT-400 driven by Jacob Tyler Howard of Mobile. Howard’s three passengers were seriously injured in the crash.  Bumpers was booked into the Mobile County Metro Jail, and no bond has been set.

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
