SENATE DISTRICT 29: Alabama State Senator Harri Anne Smith is at the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce Headquartes to take the oath of office.
Geneva County District Court Judge Stephen Smith set to administer the Oath Of Office.
Brief remarks are being made by Charmber Matt Parker and DOthan Mayor Mike Schnitz.
Senator Smith "hopes" that takin gthe Oath of Office at the Chamber will signal a four year mandate to bring jobs. Senator Smith hopes that she and the business commuinty of District 29 will lock arm and arm, and with the combined efforts of all resources, Snith hopes more and more jobs can be brought to District 29.
This past election placed some Dothan heavy weights against Smith. The election of 2010 and 2014, the Alabama Republican party and some "elite" businessman spent about $ 7 or $ 8 million dollars in an effort to defeat Smith.
IN 2010, Smith kicked from the Republican Party, and under indictment, fought for her re-election bid an an independent. In 2014, with Bob Riley, Del Marsh and Mike Hubbard fighting Smith, she won again as Alabama State Senator.
Smith's younger sister, Hope Johnson, is this year's Presidentof the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce. Smith is excited about the future and what teamwork can do to provide for District 29 and jobs.
Senator Smith's husband, Charlie Smith, said Lawrence Harris, Harri Anne's dad, was looking from heaven proud of all three of his daughters and their accomplishments.
Senator Smith begins her 16th year with theis term as Alabama Senator. Smith is the first lady to be elected twice as an Independent Candidate. Smith will have completed 20 years as Alabama Seantor at the close of this four year term.
Smith said, she wants to help people. Smith said she is your Senator. Call her if you need her.
With the swearing in at the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce, Smith wants to signal - focus on jobs and helping people.
