HOUSTON COUNTY: Moments ago I spoke with the Deputy Chief of Staff for Alabama Secretary of State Office.
Andy Hughes as the only person who qualified to run for Houston County Sheriff. He qualified as a Republican.
No one qualified as a Democrat for Houston County Sheriff.
No one qualified as an Independent for Houston County Sheriff.
That means, Andy Hughes was the only candidate for Houston County Sheriff. Hughes was a Republican.
STEP 1
Alabama Governor Robert Bentley will make an appointment for Houston County Sheriff to begin on August 18, 2014. Whomever the Governor appoints will be the Sheriff through mid January 2015.
The current term of Sheriff ends in mid January 2015.
STEP 2
Members of the Houston County Republican Executive Committee will select someone to replace Andy Hughes on the ballot for Houston County Sheriff.
The committee will select only be one person. There may or may not be interviews by the Houston County Republican Executive Committee.
There registered voters of Houston County have no voice in the selection.
STEP 3
Unless a successful write in campaign is launched by someone for Houston County Sheriff, whoever is selected by the Houston County Republican Executive Committee, will be the Sheriff of Houston County for the next four years, after mid January 2015.
The selection by the Houston County Republican Executive Committee is not bound by the selection of Sheriff by Alabama Governor Robert Bentley.
Governor Bentley could appoint John Doe as Sheriff. That would mean John Doe would be the Sheriff until January 2015.
The Houston County Republican Executive Committee could appoint Sam Smith as the nominee for the Republican party. And that appointment will be the Houston County Sheriff in January 2015 for four years.
HOUSTON COUNTY REPUBLICAN EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The Houston County Republican Executive Committee is chaired by John Gormley.
The Houston County Republican Executive Committee consists of 30 to 50 persons.
Those 30 to 50 people will decide who the Sheriff of Houston County will be.
Unless a successful write in campaign is launched by someone.
