Please be advised that the storm that came through yesterday caused significant and widespread damage that is still being assessed by city staff. Dozens of roads remain blocked and power lines are down in all areas. The worst damage is reported in the Ford Country area and in Southside - around Doug Tew / Dothan High School / South St. Andrews St. Power was down at a number of sewer system lift stations, which was a first priority to fix or sewage would have quit moving in the correct direction. Sewer plants are running on generators until we can get power fixed.
This damage is being described as very similar to the damage the city experienced following Hurricane Opal, if that gives you any sense of what we are dealing with. Dangerous conditions still exist all over town, so please refrain from sight-seeing until crews can get these matters resolved. All Dothan Utilities crews were scheduled to report to work today at 8am. So, I expect significant progress over the next few hours with road cleaning and power restoration. Debris removal could take several weeks.
Please be patient and know that your city staff is on top of the situation and working hard to fix the damage.
