We are pleased to announce that most areas without power should have it restored in the next 24 hours. As of late today, approximately 2000 residents, located all around Dothan, were still without power. The hope is to reduce that number drastically by the end of Tuesday. Unfortunately, there are pockets around town that could take until Friday, but that's in very limited areas.

One thing to look out for is damage to your home's electrical connection. I've noticed several homes with above-ground service which have bent or detached connection pipes. Those must be fixed and it's the homeowner's responsibility to get that fixed. If you think your house sustained damage to the connection, seek a professional who can help you with it so your power can be reconnected without delay.

As I presume power will be re-established to everyone in District 6 within the next day, we need to get ready for the next phase of this disaster - the clean-up. It will likely take several weeks, maybe longer, for all of the debris to get removed. To help our crews , please cut limbs and trees into sections no longer than 3 feet. Also, if possible, make separate piles for natural debris and metal/plastic debris. We can save a lot of money if we can dispose of the natural debris separately from the other. Try to take metal and other recyclable materials to the large collection points where regular recycling takes place.

For those who want to help, please call 211 or consider making donations to the Red Cross or other charitable and faith-based relief organizations. There are a lot of people who have a lot of damage and not likely a lot of resources to fix the damage their homes sustained. With your help, I know we can make it better for everyone to recover from this event.

Please let me know if you have questions. I'll keep you posted on any new developments.
