Structure Fire Reported at 11976 US 231 South behind the Army Navy Surplus Store

MADRID: Multiple Volunteer Fire units from Madrid and Southern Junction responded to a report of a structure fire at 11976 US 231 South behind the Army Navy Surplus Store. The first reports were a bedroom fire with flames visible.
First unit on scene has advised flames and heavy smoke visible. Houston County Sheriff’s Office is responding along with an ambulance from Rehobeth.
When units arrived they requested more fire units to help with water supply and man power. Units from Hodgesville, Taylor and a tanker from Cottonwood responded to help fight the fire.
Fire fighters attempted to make entry into the home but due to the amount of fire load and the extreme fire conditions the fire fighters had to be ordered out of the structure. Fire fighters had just cleared the doorway when a flash-over occurred.
The occupants were at home at the time of the fire and were able to escape without injury. The home was a total loss despite the best efforts of fire fighters. Red Cross was called and responded to the scene to help the family.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
