DOTHAN: Please donate to the American Heart Association in honor of Northview s students that were unable to donate due to being a day late with $2 dollars and awarded after school detention students that would of donated more but offered exchange of deviation from dress code for $2 donation and any student that was unable to donate for any reason: Mail donation to The American Heart Association 2592 Ross Clark Circle #280 Dothan , Alabama 36301
Today added to my frustrations with Northview administration .I got the same response we have 1400 students from principal Shaw and that we can agree to disagree. Today is a fundraiser at Northview High School for the American Heart Association. My understanding is that each student that donated $2 could deviate from the dress cord and wear jeans and no collar shirt, unclear is had to be a specific color. According to school administration, principal Shaw yesterday was the deadline to donate and be able to wear jeans, according to Jamee local American Heart Association school representative there is no deadlines for giving that she scheduled to pick donations up in two weeks but no deadline and the American Heart Association always accepts donations for a good cause.
The students that did not have the money until today , showed up to school with $2 to donate and had deviated from the dress code were not allowed to donate and received After School Detention for deviating from the dress code. The American Heart Association is a good cause to donate to if you are able, support and wish to. I respect that everyone may not believe this or be able to donate. I ask first what is our school administration teaching our children, that you give to recieve( donate and you may deviate from dress code) , because you did not have your money before the day of the fundraiser there is no need to donate, and because you do not wish to donate or do not have the capabilities to donate you will be punished today to have to wear your uniform and be labeled as the one who did not wish to donate or was unable. My understanding was that uniforms in school would help our children not standout because they did not have capabilities of purchasing designer clothes and from previous article that I read during debate over school uniforms "Wilder favors dress code because they lead to a safer educational environment that increases students ability to learn, increase equality between the sexes and tolerance among ethnic and social groups." 1st
I must ask why administration would use the dress code for participation which the schools have fought so hard for (I can only guess hoping for more donations)2nd why teach our children you give to recieve something , third as the representative for The American Heart Association stated to me we involve schools hoping to teach students the importance of volunteering. 4th equality, why would today be the day that administration chose to punish the dress code deviation as kids showed up today in jeans with $2 to donate and told to late, when on any given day prior to today anyone could visit Northview and clearly see that the dress code is not followed from collar shirts, length of skirts etc. Any student that did not have the money until today, forgot etc. were denied the right to donate and punished with after school detention next week.
I spoke with principal Shaw only to get a deaf ear and hear once again we have 1400 students and deadlines. What if it was the remaining $2 denied by each student today that could of assisted in saving your life, your familys's life or a life in general. I even ask the administration to reconsider allowing students to donate and not punish the students because they chose not to donate were unable to donate or did not have the money to donate until today with a deaf ear. So, yes one of my kids gave her break money because she forgot and wanted to give and the other will sit in after school detention for showing up with deviation to dress code that many others were wearing that donated the day before with her $ 2 and denied because she was late with her donation. Thank you in advance " pay it Forward
