'Suspicious' fire destroys historic Tallassee mill

TALLASSEE, AL (WSFA) -
Law enforcement officials are calling the massive blaze that destroyed the historic mill in Tallassee late Wednesday night a “suspicious fire”.
Tallassee Police Chief Jimmy Rodgers says the fire began around 11 p.m. The structure was vacant with no running electricity, and there were no reports of lightning in the area. The area also had reports of vandalism over the past year.
No injuries were reported, but around 10 families were evacuated from the area due to the heat and embers. They have since been allowed to return home.
