DOTHAN- Reality TV star Bruce Mitchell from the History Chanel show, “Swamp People” will be in Dothan, Alabama on April 11-12 to sign autographs and meet his fans. Bruce will be at the 9th annual Tri-State BBQ Festival and will have a booth space to promote his upcoming line of seasonings and spices, and will also be competing in the barbecue cooking competition.
On the smash-hit show, “Swamp People” History Channel follows several swampers through a time of year that is crucial to their survival: the 30-day alligator hunting season. At its core, this is a uniquely American story of a proud and skillful people fighting to maintain an ancient way of life in a rapidly modernizing world, despite the many trials and perils that stand in their way.
Bruce Mitchell broke out as a fan favorite, due in part to his friendly, likeable demeanor, and his loveable sidekick dog, Tyler. Tyler is getting older and doesn’t travel as much anymore, but if Tyler is able to make the trip to Dothan in April, he will.
There is no extra cost to get an autograph from Bruce or have your photo made with him. Daily admission to the festival is $10 per person with students and active duty military just $5 and children 6 and under are free.
The 9th annual Tri-State BBQ Festival has been named as one of 39 “Can’t Miss” festivals in the state of Alabama by the department of tourism and features dozens of barbecue teams competing for $11,000 in prize money. Besides the barbecue competition, there are other cooking competitions (sauce, chili, burgers for the kids) and there are cooking demonstrations all weekend. There is a vendor area with sauces, seasonings and spices as well as shopping with food and non-food vendors. The main stage features entertainment all weekend long.
If you’re going to the Tri-State BBQ Festival here are the times it is open. Friday April 11 from 5-10 pm. Friday night the KJAMS are playing a concert at 6:30 pm. You can bring a lawnchair or blanket, but no coolers are allowed in the gates either day. Saturday the gates open at 10am and activities continue until 6pm. The BBQ sampling at the People’s Choice begins at 2:30 and you won’t want to miss that! The car show is from 10-2 and there’s entertainment all day long. Barbecue awards are on the main stage at 5:30pm,and you can find out who won the best barbecue at that time.
