DOTHAN: At today’s Dothan City Commission Meeting; one of the HOT topics was trash. As everyone knows the city commission has been talking about expanding the local landfill owned and operated by the City of Dothan. The entire way concerned citizens that live around the landfill have been lobbing to stop the expansion.
Bobby Lewis, is one of the citizens that has voiced his concern, a small select few of the community has appointed Mr. Lewis as their spokesperson to speak with the Commission. Today was no different; Mr. Lewis gave it one last attempt to reason with the commission and attempt to change their minds on the expansion.
District 1 and 2 Commissioners also voiced their opinions but they too fell on death ears. When the final vote came to be it was passed 5 to 2, in favor of moving forward with the expansion process. It will be several years down the road to finalize the expansion process, but today’s vote proves it will go through.
Commissioner Newsome summed it up when he stated that over the year they have been taking the economical (cheap) way out and just adding to the problem instead of fixing the problem. The mayor agreed this was only a short term fix and a long time plan would have to be approached.
