Talledega mayor gets room into a fight in Vestevia Hills

A 71-year-old man is in custody Saturday after he allegedly beat a 74-year-old acquaintance with a baseball bat.


Multiple sources have identified the victim as Larry Barton, mayor of Talladega. 


Vestavia Hills police said Saturday the assault occurred outside of Cahaba Heights Plaza Barber Shop a little before 8 a.m. Both men were transported to hospitals for treatment, but Barton remained at UAB at 4 p.m. Saturday.


Vestavia Police Department's Lt. Brian Gilham said the two knew each other, and the suspect was waiting for the victim to arrive at his part-time job Saturday morning when he attacked.
