Sheriff Upshaw said that his department has worked an unusual amount of sexual related offenses this year. Upshaw said that it is a top priority in his department for these cases against children to be investigated and the offenders arrested.

Sgt. David Morris, Investigator in the cases stated that Sheriff  Upshaw, being a father himself, believes that all of our children deserve to be and should feel safe in their homes, schools and community. Sheriff Upshaw has instructed Investigator Morris to thoroughly pursue these cases and arrest the offenders.

Investigator Morris said that the victim in this case revealed to her parents that a teacher had been inappropriate with her at school.

Barbour County School Board superintendent, Gary Quick contacted the Barbour County Department Of Human Resources who then contacted the Sheriff’s Office.

Investigator Morris said that he has been in contact with an investigator with Pike County Sheriff’s Office in reference to  evidence of allegations made against Woodham while he was a teacher in the Troy City School system.  Evidence uncovered by Investigator Morris will be turned over to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office.
