Ten Appeared Before Judeg Lewis For Initial Appearance

HOUSTON COUNTY:   Ten persons appeared  before Houston County District Court Judge Benjamin Lewis for Initial Appearance:


LANCE WIDNER:  Promoting Prison Contraband. A inmate assigned to Houston County Community Corrections, was charged with bringing contraband into the Community Corrections facility. Bond is set at $ 300.


ANTHONY LONG:  Owes the court system $ 1671.60 on misdemeanor offenses from 2014. The offenses that Long has not paid on are Speed, No insurance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Judge Lewis ordered Long to be released on supervised Community Corrections while paying his fines and court costs.


SEAN FRANCIS:  Appeared on six counts of Possession of Forged Instruments. Bond is set at $ 15,000.00 on each offense for a total of $ 90,000.00 worth of bonds. Francis is accused of forged checks from H2O in Dothan.


JAMES BOGARD:  Appeared on three counts of Possession of Forged Instruments. Bond is set at $ 15,000.00 on each offense for a total of $ 45,000.00 worth of bonds. Bogard is accused with Francis of forged checks on H2O in Dothan.


SHELBY CARROLL:  Owes the court system $ 1979.50 on misdemeanor offenses from 2014. The offenses Carroll has not paid are No Driver License and DUI.  Judge Lewis ordered Carroll to be released to Community Corrections and set up on a payment plan.


LISA LANGSTON:  Owes the court system $ 440.20 on misdemeanor offenses. The offense Langston has not paid is Driving While License Suspended. The case was from 2014. Judge Lewis ordered a $ 300 bond for Langston.


TABITHA CARROLL:  Appeared before the court on charges Obstructing Governmental Operations – False Identification. A bond of $ 2,500.00 was ordered.


DAVID KIRKLAND – black male: Appeared before the court on a failure to appear for Child Support. A cash bond of $ 500 plus $ 317 is ordered before the defendant can be released from jail.


RICKY SMITH:  Appeared before the court on Failure to Appear for Child Support. A $ 500 cash bond was ordered by District Court Judge Lori Ingram.


EVESTER THARPE, Jr.:  Appeared before the court for Willful Failure to Return to Community Corrections. Tharpe told Judge Lewis he wished to plead guilty and return to prison. Tharpe said he has been a yo-yo bouncing between the prison and Community Corrections since 2013. Tharpe stated that since 2013 he has been to prison, community corrections, prison and back. Tharpe said he wanted to go to prison, get his time served and get it over with. With that said Judge Lewis allowed Tharpe to enter a plea and denied his being returned to Community Corrections.


Judge Lewis holds initial appearance, Monday through Friday at 8:30 AM via TV monitor from the courthouse to the jail. On holidays Judge Lewis goes to the jail and hold Initial Appearance.
