A Texas corrections officer was killed by an inmate early Saturday morning, CNN reported.
Mari Johnson, 55, was found around 3 a.m. Saturday morning in the kitchen area of French Robertson Unit, a maximum security prison in Abilene, Texas.
She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Gov. Greg Abbott said that Johnson was killed by an inmate, who has not been identified.
"Texas will ensure the perpetrator receives swift justice, and TDCJ [Texas Department of Criminal Justice] has been instructed to take all necessary measures to enhance the safety of their staff to prevent such tragedies."
