REHOBETH: THANKS to Houston County School Supt. Tim Pitchford and Houston County Sheriff Department.
The school crossing on Highway 203 in front of Rehobeth Middle School now has a school crossing guard for both morning and afternoon. Houston County School Supt. Tim Pitchford had sent a letter to the Town of Rehobeth offering to pay for a guard. The Town of Rehobeth ignored the request.
Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes and School Resource Lt. Randy Anderson found out about Mr. Pitchford's offer and have filled the position. The children will now have safety when crossing the busy roadway.
This has been something I have fussed about for the last couple of years. In fact the Rehobeth Mayor even got mad at me for my hitting the issue and bringing it to light. But it has been an issue of which I have been concerned that some child was going to get run over and hurt.
The children, in my mind, are our most important asset. Unlike the people we have in power in Montgomery and other areas which want to guard the adults and say the heck with the children, the school crossing has been dangerous. It was not an issue of "if" a child was going to get hurt, only an issue of "when". But Tim Pitchford, Sheriff Hughes and Sheriff Lt. Anderson have solved the problem.
If only our Alabama Courts and Legislature felt the same way. When they all run for office, they are "polymagicians" where we have to watch the slight of their hands. ( Like Governor Bentley - will say anything to get elected and not fulfill his promise ). I could not sleep at night if I was one of the court or legislative decision makers and have all of the security they have and leave the schools unattended with security. We have had more issues in schools then courts and legislature. However we spend more money protecting the adults than we do the children.
And to me, the children are far more important than the Alabama Legislators, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Speaker of the House, Alabama Supreme Court and Courthouses. However, to theirselves, they are more important.
THANKS to Tim Pitchford and the Sheriff for making sure the children are protected.
