The Alabama Cowboy Mounted Shooting State Championship returns to the Southern Cross Ranch in Columbia, Alabama this weekend. Hosted by Southern Crossfire, the local affiliate for the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association, this event will feature over fifty competitors from Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. The competitors are state, national and world champions, as well as world record holders in the sport.
Riders in 26 different divisions will compete for points, prizes and cash awards. Using single action revolvers,  as well as lever action rifles and double barreled shotguns, contestants will vie for speed and accuracy while racing through prescribed courses on horseback.  Club president Ed Kilpatrick said, "The best way to describe cowboy mounted shooting is to think of barrel racing, pole bending and target shooting all at the same time!"
This three day event will begin with a preliminary match on Friday night, May 24th at  6:00 pm, with the state championship finals held on Saturday and Sunday. The opening ceremony will take place Saturday morning at 9:00 am, and the final round will begin Sunday at 9:00 am.    Concessions on site all weekend.  There is no admission charge for spectators."
