DOTHAN, ALABAMA - In partnership with non-profit yoga studio Mesuva Studios, the Wiregrass Museum of Art introduces The Art of Yoga, a monthly yoga series taking place the first Friday of every month. The class will incorporate the therapeutic nature of art with the healing properties of yoga under the instruction of certified yogi Melissa Vair.
The Art of Yoga will be an all-levels, flow-style class that will combine Ms. Vair's unique style of cueing with therapeutic actions in the asanas (poses) to help create space around the spine. "With a focus on syncing breath and movement we will enjoy the wide open space of the beautiful art gallery surrounding us!" Vair said.
WMA's art educator Leah Lapszynski considers the relationship between art and yoga to be a natural one: "I believe that there is inherent restorative and healing power in art and artistic practice. I also think that this 'practice' can take many forms. What Melissa Vair and Mesuva Studios offer is physical expression of art through the body. The Art of Yoga is a series that combines the uniquely meditative aspect of art with those physical healing properties of yoga."
