DOTHAN: For the first time in 52 years of practicing law, Dothan School Board Attorney Jere Segrest felt "drawn out" by the Dothan Eagle to dispute their editorial.
Segrest and fellow attorney Kevin Walding called an 11:30 AM press conference to dispute an editorial in The Dothan Eagle. The press conference was at the office of Attorney Segrest.
Segrest disputes that the investigation into the suspension of Dothan School Supt. Tim Wilder has been done wrong. It is disputed that Wilder has not been given due process. Segrest states that Wilder has been served personally at his residence the documents with the accusations.
Segrest states Wilder had an attorney in Montgomery representing him and that attorney was sent the charging documents. Now Wilder has an Attorney in Dothan, Ed Price, and he has been sent the charging documents.
Segrest said it is up to Tim Wilder if the hearing will be open to the public or closed from the public. According to Segrest, Alabama law allows that. Attorney Ed Price is to notify Segrest by Monday of their decision for an open or closed hearing. According to Segrest the Board has no problem with the hearing being open.
Segrest would not give the media the charging document nor would he elaborate on the accusations. The reason given was to protect the due process of Wilder and those making the accusations.
Segrest said trust your elected school board members in the decisions they are making. Segrest said the investigation is on going at this time and not over.
There is a hearing set for today week ( next Friday ).
