DOTHAN:  This week “The Meck” and I had the chance to sit down with Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz and talk about economic development.

Mayor Schmitz partnered with Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce President Matt Parker and other area business leaders have been working hard on JOBS – JOBS – and more JOBS.

The Meck and I spoke with the Mayor about where they are at, what is going on and how the announcement of the closing of the Airport Tower affects their recruitment.

There is a lot that cannot be talked about. Some of that is because the industries make the persons they are dealing with sign confidentiality agreements. And then you are in competition with other cities and counties across the entire United States in getting jobs.

Because The Meck and I have had extensive conversations with Mayor Schmitz over the past year, the people of Dothan can be proud of the work he, Parker and other business leaders have done. One day all of that can be disclosed.

But rest assured, the industrial recruitment team assembled by Schmitz and Parker, they never yell “uncle”…in other words, they do not give up. Their priority is bringing jobs to Dothan and the surrounding area. And good jobs!!!
