DOTHAN:   Dothan Commissioner James Reading and Commissioner Amos Newsome deserve a good old fashion STUPID SLAP!

This past weekend Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz  and members of the Dothan City Commission took their weekend to meet with Lyle Sumek, a strategic planner.

The purpose of the weekend meeting session was to discuss each commissioners ideas and thoughts about issues affecting Dothan. The meeting was also to discuss each commissioners goals and objectives they wanted to accomplish for their districts and the city as a whole. A time where everyone talked freely and openly.

Dothan Commissioners James Reading and Amos Newsome refused to show up for any of the meetings over the weekend. They abandoned their districts by not showing up to discuss their plans and desires.

Sumek has been in Dothan several years for these meetings. Arguments can go both ways on having a strategic planner. However, he is a good independent facilitator to keep the discussions on track, establish priority items, and set agendas and time tables in order to accomplish those goals and objectives.

On Sunday members of the Dothan – Houston County E-911 Advisory Board, along with Mayor Mike Schmitz, Commissioner Albert Kirkland, Commissioner Taylor Barbaree, and Commissioner Jackie Battles met with Sumek.

I serve on the Dothan – Houston County E-911 Advisory Committee.

We spend our Sunday meeting and discussing the emergency communications system that serves the entire Houston County. We spend out day discussing the goals and objectives, our ideas and how to accomplish these goals. I serve on the committee for free, have no government job or position. My entire day that I would have spent with my family and a good old Sunday afternoon nap, was spent in the meeting working to make the emergency operations system better.

And for Dothan Commissioner James Reading, District 1 and Dothan Commissioner Amos Newsome, District 2, to not attend any of the weekend meetings, they violated their district and representation of their district. They are each paid $ 21,000.00 per year. If I can attend one of the meetings and donate my time, these two paid guys could have showed up and represented their districts.

On behalf of the citizens that live in District 1 and District 2 of the City of Dothan, a great back old S-T-U-P-I-D   S-L-A-P to Commissioner James Reading and Amos Newsome.

Remember…the commission has 7 members. It takes 4 votes to pass anything. One commissioner can do nothing alone. If these two guys do not care enough about Dothan, the process or their fellow commissioners to participate in a planning meeting, then if I was one of the 4 I would not vote for anything they wanted for the next year. Even a motion to adjourn the meeting. They owe their Mayor, fellow commissioners, and most importantly the people of their district a public apology for not attending and participating in the planning session.

STUPID SLAP….STUPID SLAP….STUPID SLAP!
