Three women died in a two-vehicle wreck following a high speed pursuit involving a Calhoun County deputy on Tuesday, authorities said.

Alabama State Troopers said the crash occurred near the intersection of Old Gadsden Highway and Alexandria Road at around 2:50 p.m.

Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown identified the victims as Melanie Brown Hurst, 39, Melanie Dawn Trantham, 43, and Joy Ann Howell, 74, all of Anniston.

Calhoun County Chief Deputy Matthew Wade said the incident began on Noble Street in Anniston when a deputy, who had just finished his shift, was headed home. Wade said the deputy saw a man in a truck pass his patrol car in the wrong lane of traffic, running a red light.
