TODAY - Family Fun At City of Dothan - Houston County Emergency Operations Center

DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY:    Today a group of employees planned a "fun day" at the new City of Dothan - Houston County Emregency Operations Center.

A cook out day, fun slides for the kids, a time for relaxed fun and fellowship for the people who are the backbone of emergency services.

The new $ 5 million dollar facility is located at 409 East Adams Street. It will be the new home for the City of Dothan Police/Fire, Houston County Sheriff, Houston County Volunteer Fire/EMS and Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Office.

Beginning April 11 the Dothan Police/Fire Cimmunization Center will begin their move into the new facility. Followed by Houston County Sheriff Department and Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management. The Sheriff Department operates the 911 Center for the Houston County Volunteer Fire/EMS.

This facility serves all of Houston County, to include Dothan, Kinsey, Webb, Columbia, Gordon, Ashford, Cottonwood, Madrid, Cowarts, Rehobeth, Taylor and all other unincorporated areas of Houston County.

The men and women who work in the 911 center are the true backbone to saving lives and property. They are the direct link between the public and emergency services. It is their calmness that helps ease the tension a victim of an emergency has when calling 911. It is the information they are able to pull from the caller that rolls the equipment and staff to save lives and property. It is their professionalism in stepping persons through immediate life saving efforts for them to begin while emergency equipment and staff are rolling to the scene.

The men and women that will live a large portion of their life in this building go unnoticed and not before the public. But they are the true hereos in obtaining information so that law enforcement, fire, EMS and utilities do not walk into a bad situation without having the proper information available to them.

This next week is telecommunicators week. A week set aside to recognize the men and women who provide these services.

I am glad for the ones who organized today in order for these true heroes to have fun.
