A severe tornado swept through a rural Pickens County neighborhood Tuesday night, badly damaging or destroying dozens of homes and leaving many residents worried about how they would piece their lives back together.
The scene on the ground Tuesday evening in Sapps – a small, tight-knit community located just outside Aliceville about 40 miles west of Tuscaloosa near the Mississippi border – was one of devastation, though there had been no deaths or major injuries reported.
"I was in the bed asleep at the time and it woke me up. It sounded like a train," Sapps resident Anthony Walker told AL.com. "It's the first time in about 25 years a tornado hit here. Everybody all the way back down there has damage for about a mile or two."
