On March 23, 2017, Officers with the Marianna Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Old Cottondale Road and Penn Avenue to a traffic crash with entrapment.
An investigation revealed that a Black Chevrolet Malibu, operated by Shericka Curl of Marianna, was traveling east on Old Cottondale Rd. When Curl arrived at the intersection of Penn Ave, she entered the roadway into the path of a white Chrysler Sebring operated by Richard Brown of Tallassee, Alabama. The Chrysler struck the Chevrolet on the center driver’s side causing it to roll onto its side on the east side on the road.
Both drivers and Curl’s juvenile passenger suffered injuries and were transported to local hospitals to receive treatment.
The Marianna Police Department would like to thank the Marianna Fire Rescue, Jackson County Fire Recue, and The Florida Wildlife Commission, for their assistance on scene and the citizens of Marianna to stop to aid the drivers until first responders arrived.
As summer approaches we can expect to see an increased number of travelers on the roadways. Chief Baggett encourages all motorist to exercise extreme caution during Spring Break. Don’t text and drive, don’t drive distracted and get plenty of rest before beginning your travels. The Marianna Police Department wants everyone to enjoy their summer and return home safely.
