HOUSTON COUNTY:  The Houston County Commission will meet today at 10 AM for their Administrative Meeting. This is where  the commissioners discuss items and make decisions on forwarding to the Monday agenda.

One item on the agenda will possibly have the commission split in making a final determination. That item will be Houston County’s participation in traffic light installation on U.S. Highway 84 and Forrester Road at the Old Ace Hardware Supply intersection.

The State of Alabama will participate in ½ of the cost of the traffic light. The total cost for the traffic light installation is reported to be around $ 90,000.00. The Town of Cowarts has requested Houston County Participate in ½ of that cost in the installation of the traffic light cameras.

Some Houston County Commissioners are very concerned over placing traffic lights at this intersection Traveling west on U.S. Highway 84 from Ashford towards Dothan, the intersection is at a downward slant. Some Houston County Commissioners feel this will create a more dangerous problem than it will solve.

The Town of Cowarts is in Commissioner Sinquefield’s District. He is expected to go along with the request from the Town of Cowarts.

Currently only two Commissioners rule. If Commissioners Harvey and Battles votes in opposition, the issue fails.

Should there be traffic lights at the intersection or will it create more problems than it would solve? Send in your user comments to this question.

The Commissioners will discuss the issue at 10 AM on Thursday and make a final determination on Monday.
