On June 30, 2016, an Investigator with the Jackson County Drug Task Force conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 10 for traveling above the posted speed limit, 88 MPH in a 70 MPH zone. An Investigator stopped the rental vehicle near the 128 mile marker headed east bound. While the investigator was conducting the enforcement action for the traffic infraction, a K-9 Deputy arrived to provide backup and K-9 assistance.

The K-9 Deputy deployed K-9 “Roxy” to conduct a free air sniff of the vehicle. “Roxy” showed a positive alert on the vehicle, giving Investigators probable cause to search the vehicle.

While searching the vehicle, Investigators located a clear plastic baggie inside of an opened potato chip bag on the back floorboard, which contained approximately 2 grams of suspected methamphetamine. The three occupants were detained at this time pending the outcome of the investigation.

Upon further searching the vehicle, Investigators located a blue Igloo cooler, which later was determined to contain a hidden compartment. Once access was gained to the hidden compartment, approximately 8 ounces of crystal methamphetamine was discovered. This amount meets and exceeds the minimum mandatory weight requirements for Trafficking under Florida Statutes. Other items located were digital scales, 4 different sized plastic baggies and cut straws.

These items are consistent with the packaging and distribution of bulk quantities of methamphetamine. The street value of the drugs seized is approximately $22,400.

The following subjects were arrested and charged as follows: James Kevin Spell, 36 YOA, Gainesville, Florida Charges: Trafficking in Methamphetamine Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Robert John McClure, 41 YOA, Niceville, Florida Charges: Trafficking in Methamphetamine Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Jamie L.
