On 07/15/2016 an off duty Officer got behind a vehicle that was driving eradically. The officer called in the suspected intoxicated driver. On-duty Patrol Officers made contact with the vehicle on W. Main Street.
The driver turned into the Jamestown Subdivision as the Officers attempted to perform a traffic stop. Once the driver realized the roadway was a dead end he turned the car around and tried to ram the oncoming Patrol cars. The Officers made evasive maneauvers to avoid being struck and the driver struck the off-duty Officer who was following in his personal vehicle.
The driver was taken into custody. It was determined that the vehicle was stolen from Phenix City. Investigators have arrested and charged the driver, Dawann Harris of Hurtsboro Alabama, with Receiving Stolen Property 1st degree, Attempted Assault 1st degree, and Making a Terrorist Threat. Bond will be set later today.
All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
