Traffic Stop Leads to an Arrest in Marianna

On December 26th, 2012 at approximately 8:15pm, Officers with the Marianna Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a brown in color, Dodge truck, for the traffic infraction of no brake lights. Upon Officers conducting the stop on Highway 73 North, Officers made contact with the driver who was identified as Robert Thompson. During the investigation of the traffic stop, a narcotics detection canine was deployed on the vehicle. With a positive alert from the narcotics detection canine, a search of the vehicle was conducted. The search revealed a 22 caliber firearm and several ammunition boxes that contained unfired ammunition. A check of Thompson revealed that he was a convicted felon. Thompson was arrested for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Thompson was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
