Traffic Stop Leads to an Arrest in Newville

On Thursday, January 12, the Newville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a red ford van for reports of reckless driving. After the officer checked the vehicle identification number of the van, it was discovered the van was stolen from Plant City, Florida. The driver, Samuel Edwin Jones, 29, of Plant City was subsequently arrested and the Henry County Sheriff's Office / Abbeville Police Task Force was contacted for assistance.
A further investigation by the task force led to the recovery of an operational clandestine methamphetamine laboratory, illegal steroids, stolen credit cards and a SKS assault rifle. Jones was charged with receiving stolen property first degree, trafficking in methamphetamine, manufacturing a controlled substance first degree, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal possession of stolen credit cards and carrying a concealed weapon. Jones was booked into the Henry County Jail and is awaiting a first appearance in court.
