Traffic Stop Leads to an Arrest on Drug Charges

On Tuesday November 18, 2014, a Deputy with the Uniformed Patrol Division of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Caniehead Road north of the Town of Campbellton, Florida for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Benjamin Heatrice, failed to yield to the Deputy's emergency lights and siren and continued to travel eastbound on Caniehead Road. As the vehicle neared the intersection of Caniehead and Avery Roads, the driver failed to yield at the stop sign at that intersection and proceeded north onto Avery Road through the intersection. As the Deputy followed, the driver was observed throwing contraband out the window as he fled. A short time later, the driver pulled into and address on Avery Road and was subsequently taken into custody without further incident. The driver was then transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance. This incident did occur in Jackson County, Florida.
