CLANTON, AL (WBRC) -
Clanton police have closed Exit 212 on I-65 southbound on Thursday morning as authorities investigate a trooper-involved shooting that happened on Wednesday night.
Clanton police confirm encourage drivers to use exits 208 or 205 to get into the city. Troopers expect the ramp to be opened for Thursday morning rush hour. Traffic on the I-65 is moving normally as of 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
Sgt. Steve Jarrett with ALEA says that shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday, a male approached a state trooper who was posted at a construction zone on I-65 near the 238 mile marker in Shelby County.
The man told the trooper that his wife had threatened to shoot him. The trooper tried to stop the man's wife but she drove away in a vehicle. Law enforcement attempted to stop the driver, who they say brandished a firearm during the pursuit.
Troopers put down spike strips at Exit 212, which caused the woman to stop. After a brief standoff, troopers say the woman fired several shots at officers. Law enforcement returned fire. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
