Troopers: Traveling in left lane is illegal

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -


It's something that will drive you crazy on Alabama interstates: people driving slowly in the left lane. Are you aware it's illegal? 


The left is supposed to be the passing lane, but we know it doesn't always end up that way.


If you use that left lane as a travel lane, troopers say you are breaking the law. But they say many people don't realize it.



They also say it causes multi-vehicle crashes and sometimes road rage.


"If they need to pass a slower moving motorist than that's when they can use that left hand lane to pass that motorist and safely get back over into the right lane,” Cpl. Jess Thornton with ALEA said.
