HOUSTON and HENRY COUNTY: Twentieth Judicial Circuit Assistant District Attorney David Atwell has submitted his Notice of Resignation or Retirement from the District Attorney’s Office. The resignation is effective in two weeks.
Atwell, as we understand, will be going to work in Bainbridge Georgia with the District Attorney Office.
Atwell has been with the Twentieth Judicial Circuyit District Attorney Office for about 8 years. He came to Houston and Henry County following a long time tenure with the Thirty Third Judicial Circuit District Attorney Office which comprises Dale and Geneva County. On the retirement of David Emory from Dale and Geneva County Atwell moved to the Houston - Henry County District Attorney Office.
Atwell has tried cases before all Judges of this Circuit. He was primarily assigned to Circuit Judge Larry Anderson’s courtroom and handled the prosecution of cases before Anderson. That was no easy task because Judge Anderson expects both sides to be prompt, prepared, professional and know their facts, issues and move along without wasting time. Atwell has always been up to the task.
Atwell has tried cases of all descriptions. From the most minor case to the most severe case, whether before a jury or a judge, Atwell has handled the cases. He has a good reputation on both sides of the fence in the courtroom, being law enforcement and attorney’s on the opposing side.
Atwell joins the list of four prosecutors who have left the Twentieth Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office in 2012 and the first couple of days of 2013.
We wish David Atwell well in his new endeavor. His experience and service will be missed over Houston and Henry County.
