On July 11, 2016, a Jackson County Sheriff's Deputy observed an older model truck, traveling south on Hwy 73, without a license plate or tail lights. The Deputy activated the emergency lights and siren, on the marked patrol vehicle, in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop.

The vehicle turned onto Collins Road and sped off, in an attempt to evade the deputy. The deputy followed in pursuit and the driver turned south onto Iron Bridge Road, nearly striking several vehicles traveling in the opposite direction. The driver turned into a field, north of Turtle Bend Road, driving through it and back onto Iron Bridge Road. The vehicle traveled north until seeing other Jackson County Sheriff's Office units responding.

At that time the driver, later identified as David Ray Adams, parked the truck in the middle of Iron Bridge Road and exited the vehicle. He ran into a wooded area on the west side of Iron Bridge Road and left a female passenger, Amanda Marie Williams, in the truck. Williams was taken into custody at that time, pending further investigation.

A wanted persons check was performed and deputies were advised that Adams had an active warrant from Washington County for Violation of Probation. The K9 Tracking Teams from J.C.I and A.C.I. were then requested to assist. Upon further investigation, a small quantity of suspected “Ice” (Methamphetamine) was located inside the vehicle with other items used to ingest it.  The substance was field tested with a positive result for Methamphetamine.

Williams advised deputies, the substance belonged to Adams, but she had ingested some prior to the pursuit. Williams stated she attempted to throw the “meth” out of the truck, but was unsuccessful. The A.C.I. K9 Team arrived a short time later and began a track. A few minutes later,  Adams was observed hiding in the wooded area and was taken into custody without further incident. Williams and Adams were transported to JCCF to be housed until First Appearance.
