On Sunday June 7th 2015 the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into the sexual assault of a 16 year-old female that occurred in the early morning hours of that date.
During the course of the investigation, sworn statements and physical evidence revealed that the female had been provided with alcohol and marijuana earlier in the evening.
Sometime after 3:30 a.m. she passed out in a truck in the parking lot of Club Secrets located on Forehand Rd., just south of Marianna. She reports that she awoke to being sexually assaulted by Elliott “Ratchet” Batson as the truck was being driven by Orinthid “O.J.” Hayes.
At some point the subjects swapped places and Batson began to drive as Hayes sexually assaulted the victim. She was dumped off at the Marianna Garden Apartments after the attack and had to walk home across town at around 5:00 a.m.
On 6-8-15 Elliott Batson was taken into custody at MGA without incident. Trina Shatelle Bellamy was arrested on 6-12-15 for Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor and Delivery of a Controlled Substance to a Minor, based on evidence that she provided the victim with alcohol and marijuana on the evening leading up to the assault.
On 6-24-15 at approximately 10:30 p.m. an anonymous tip revealed that Orinthid Hayes Jr. was located in an apartment at MGA. As Officers with the Marianna Police Department approached the residence, Hayes attempted
to exit the second story dwelling through a rear window, but Law Enforcement had the exit covered. He subsequently surrendered without incident and was placed in the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
Batson and Hayes were charged with Sexual Battery on a person over 12 years of age involving multiple perpetrators. The mitigating circumstance of multiple offenders upgrades the charge to a Life Felony.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Marianna Police Department, the Management of Marianna Garden Apartments and the public for their assistance in bringing these fugitives to justice.
