Two Consecutive Life Sentences for Brandon Jamal Ryles’s

Today, Pike County District Attorney Tom Anderson announced the sentencing of Brandon Jamal Ryles of Brundidge for two felony murders involving the deaths of Mark Adams and Carla Smilie on April 5, 2011.


 


On September 15, 2014 a Pike County jury returned verdicts of GUILTY for two charges of felony murder against Ryals at the conclusion of the trial.


 


On October 30, 2014, Circuit Judge Shannon Clark sentenced Ryals to two (2) consecutive life sentences as punishment for his actions.


 


District Attorney Anderson lauded the sentence handed down by the Court, stating that the strong sentence “gives these victim’s families a sense of justice and further serves as a message to would-be offenders that this will not be tolerated in Pike County.  Anyone who perpetrates such a crime in the Twelfth Circuit is going to spend many years behind bars and away from the public.”


 


Anderson commends Detective Brian McLendon and all of the officers of the Troy Police Department who assisted in the investigation of this case.  Anderson further commended Assistant District Attorney Jon Folmar for his efforts in prosecuting the case with him at trial and at sentencing.
