On January 22, 2015, the Dothan Police Department responded to a call of suspicious circumstances in the 1300 block of Alexander Drive which resulted in the discovery of deceased male.
The ensuing investigation led investigators to believe the man died of natural causes, but as the investigation continued, it was discovered that property belonging to the man had been removed from his home. Investigators made contact with the person who reported the suspicious circumstances, Chelsea Baggett. In questioning Baggett, investigators discovered the apartment was burglarized by a mutual acquaintance of hers and the victim, James Troupe Jr. Troupe Jr. was taken into custody a short period later. Through further investigation, it was determined that Baggett had knowledge of the burglary, with Troupe Jr. entering the apartment to take the victim’s belongings. Investigators obtained a search warrant for Baggett’s apartment and recovered items taken from the victim’s apartment.
Troupe Jr. and Baggett were both arrested and charged with third degree burglary. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death is still ongoing.
