DOTHAN: Two applications for liquor licenses died for a lack of a motion at today’s city commission meeting.

The first application to be considered was for 7 Sisters Lounge, 106 Columbia Highway, by Naomi Brackins. There were no motions to bring the application to the table. Ms. Brackins was asked if she would like to address the commission. She declined, and consideration of the application died due to a lack of a motion.

The second application was from Greg Harrison for the Get Down Sports Bar and Grill, 11382 Reeves Street. No motions were made to bring the matter to the table. Mr. Harrison was then asked to step up to the podium. But it was Commissioner Reading who did most of the talking.

Reading, in whose district the business is in, began by reminding Harrison that he had been before the commission this past September and had been turned down. Reading told him that he had not been a "good neighbor" in the past with a near by business, Dixie Amusement Company. Reading said that Harrison had not cleaned up trash generated by his club. Dixie Amusement was now "like a fortress" said Reading. He added that the Dixie Amusement had to contend with beer bottles, condoms, and "there must be a lot of diabetes down there", referring to syringes found on the property. Reading then went on to talk about Harrison’s past run-ins with the law

Reading concluded that he would not support a liquor license for Harrison as long as he was a commissioner. And with that, with no motions to consider, the applicaton died.
