On Friday July 17th, 2015 the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to someone selling some farm equipment from their property. The caller was calling for her Grandmother who resides in the 5000 block of Timberlane Road in Bascom, Florida. Upon Deputies arrival, contact was made with the female victim. The victim advised that her neighbors sold an old combine and a John Deere tractor that belonged to her late husband. The neighbors were known to her as they rent a residence on her property. Contact was made with the two suspects, identified as Joe Nathan Wallace Jr. and his mother, Linda Michelle Wallace. Dispatch advised that a warrant had been issued for Joe Wallace Jr.’s arrest for Failure to Appear for Domestic Battery by Strangulation. Joe Wallace Jr. was then placed under lawful arrest.
During the investigation, it was found that Joe and his mother sold the combine and tractor to a subject in Alabama. Contact was made with this subject who responded to the scene. A bill of sale was provided showing that a combine and tractor was sold to him by Linda Wallace for $250.00 and witnessed by Joe Wallace Jr. The buyer then took the equipment to Dothan and sold it for scrap metal and received over $1400.00. Joe Wallace Jr. gave a post-Miranda statement admitting that his mother advised him to sell the tractor and combine under false pretenses and to state that they belonged to his deceased father. Linda Wallace also gave a post-Miranda statement but she stated Joe needed her license for something but did not know what for. Linda also stated that she had no idea that the tractor and combine was on the property and did not know what she was signing.
Based on the statements and evidence provided, Joe Nathan Wallace Jr. and Linda Michelle Wallace were placed under lawful arrest and charged with Grand Theft and Dealing in Stolen Property. Joe Wallace Jr. was also arrested for the F.T.A. warrant for Domestic Battery. Both subjects were taken to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
