Two People Charged with Second Degree Arson

On July 6, 2015the Dothan Police and Fire Department responded to1707 Landau Court in reference to a structure fire involving a single story home. The first fire units arrived within four (4) minutes to find moderate smoke conditions from the home. Fire crews made an aggressive interior fire attack and quickly brought the fire under control. This incident was quickly determined to be suspicious in nature therefore, a joint investigation was immediately launched between the Police Department and Fire Department.

The subsequent investigation was conducted by the Dothan Arson Task Force.  The Task Force is comprised of members of the Dothan Fire Marshal’s Office and investigators from the Dothan Police Criminal Investigation Division.

After a thorough investigation, the Dothan Arson Task Force has now charged Karen WhitakerandMickey Whitaker with second degree arson. Karen Whitaker was taken into custody on July 13, 2015 and Mickey Whitaker was taken into custody on July 14, 2015.

• Karen Whitaker, white female, 55 years of age, of Landau Ct was arrested and charged with second degree Arson. A bond amount has been set at $30,000.00.

  Mickey Whitaker, white male, 31 years of age, of Landau Ct was arrested and charged with second degree Arson. A bond amount has been set at $30,000.00.
