The Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) yesterday arrested Jamie Hopkins, 31, and Veronica Dunsmore, 21, both of Red Bay, Fla., on methamphetamine drug charges.

The investigation began Feb. 2 after Investigator Josh Martin and Investigator Lloyd Skipper conducted a traffic stop on US Highway 90 after he recognized Hopkins, wanted for felony violation of probation, as the driver of the vehicle.

Deputy Matt Key and Kayne, a certified narcotics detection canine, arrived shortly after and conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle after Kayne alerted the deputy of the possible presence of illegal narcotics. During the search, the deputies recovered what appeared to be approximately two grams of methamphetamine and chemicals commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine.

Hopkins was arrested for felony violation of probation and felony driving while license suspended as a habitual offender.  Deputies recovered what appeared to be drug paraphernalia on Hopkins’ person at the time of arrest.

Following Hopkins’ arrest, a search warrant was executed at the home of Hopkins and Dunsmore, the passenger of the vehicle.

During the search of the residence located at 739 Mossy Bend Road, investigators discovered what appeared to be a meth lab and ingredients commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine.  Approximately 100 grams of suspected methamphetamine oil was recovered from the residence.

Hopkins was charged with one count of manufacture of methamphetamine, a second-degree felony; one count of possession of essential chemicals, a second-degree felony; one count of possession of a legend drug, a second-degree misdemeanor; and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, a first-degree misdemeanor.

Dunsmore was charged with one count of ownership, lease or rental for trafficking controlled substances, a third-degree felony; and one count of violation of probation..

They were booked into the Walton County Jail.
