DeFuniak Springs, FL (November 3, 2009) –
A part-time resident of Walton County arrives at his house north of DeFuniak Springs and finds that it had been ransacked, and used as a party site. The homeowner, Robert Ellis, tells Walton County Sheriff’s Deputies’ that he had been gone for two months when he arrived back at his Rockman Lane residence in the Liberty Community late last night.
Ellis tells authorities that he never gave permission for anyone to enter on the property. Sheriff’s Deputies found crushed beer cans packed into a bathroom cabinet. In one bedroom, blankets were found covering the windows and two kitchen chairs were placed into the room. A back window in the dining room had the locks broken off. A lamp was damaged as well.
In a barn in the back of the property, an SUV vehicle hood had been taken and throughout the back yard tire tracks and ruts were created by a vehicle creating circular patterns, commonly referred to as making doughnuts. The barn doors were left open and black skid marks were found on the concrete floors.
A nearby resident told authorities that at one point he witnessed about 20 people at the home. Various items like beer cans and cigarette butts littered the property. Authorities say they have a suspect, but no arrest has been made at this time in the case.
