UPDATE 12 - Breaking News: Shooting in Fort Hood, 12 Dead, 31 Wounded

Killeen, Texas: Reports are that two gunman have killed 7 people and wounded 12 on the base at Fort Hood, Texas. One person is reported to be in custody, and another one being sought.

UPDATE: There are reports that a third suspect may have been involved. A SWAT team is reported to have engaged one of the suspects. One suspect is reported to be holed up in a building with a "high power sniper's rifle".


The suspects are thought to have been wearing military fatigues.


Fort Hood is on lock down.


Update 2: Kalleen School System on lock down.


Number of wounded jumps from 12 to 20.


Update 3: Unconfirmed, a suspect was holed up in a building, came out, and exchanged fire with MPs and got away. Another report says the suspect is still in the building.  Alert sirens are going off at the post.


Update 4: A local television station is reporting that a second suspect is in custody. It is thought now that only two people were responsible for the shootings. Four SWAT officers are reported to have been injured in the gunfire.


Update 5: Reports are that shots have been fired at a soldier's residence.


Update 6: 500 military personnel are reported to be moving across the post. Warning sirens have started to sound again.


Update 7: Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison said that a general on post told her that number of wounded are "as many as 30". A press conference is scheduled to begin shortly. 10 Killeen Police were seen responding to the post.


UPDATE 8: Unconfirmed reports of shots being fired at Cooma and Liberty Villages (base housing sections).


UPDATE 9: The Associated Press is reporting that 9 people have been killed.


UPDATE 10: Lt. General Robert W. Cone, base commander,  has held a press briefing. He stated that there are 12 dead and 31 wounded. A law enforcement officer is among the dead.


UPDATE 11:  One of the dead is reported to have been a shooter.  The dead shooter was a soldier. A civilian police officer is reported to have shot and killed the shooter. Two other soldiers are in custody. It is unknown at the present time if they were also shooters. One police officer was killed. The shootings took place at a Soldier's Readiness Center. The shootings began at 1:30pm.


UPDATE 12: It is reported that the shootings began when a soldier armed with a handgun entered the Soldiers Readiness Processing Center and began firing. NBC News analyst Roger Cressey reports that one of the suspects in custody was an Army major.
