We just completed the briefing with all city department heads. Main focus of the staff is restoring power and clearing streets. Initially, power was lost to around 15,000 residents. We now are under 4,000 still without power. Although district 6 didn't have much power infrastructure destroyed, there are a number of circuits still out and being addressed in a systematic manner. Northwest Heights and the Garden District are in the system and I understand a number of residents in these areas who didn't have power this morning are now back up. Dothan Utilities will be working around the clock and we hope that things will be back to normal by tonight. If you don't have power by 9 pm, call Dothan Utilities at 615-3302. The areas with lines down and destroyed poles, like Ford Country and around Dothan High, will be down for a few days.

The county EMA will be holding a conference at 5pm and they'll let us know if schools will be open or closed tomorrow. At this time, it appears that schools will likely be closed, so if you have kids in Dothan City Schools, you need to be prepared.

The city staff indicates that the damage from this storm is likely going to be worse than hurricane opal, which means it's likely going to rank as one of the most destructive storms we have ever encountered.

The shaded area in map pictured above shows the parts of Dothan where power systems were damaged.

Continue to stay away from damaged areas and stay off of the roadways if you can. When there are more cars on the street our power crews can't work as fast.
