Update On Baby Jude

Well friends, it's been another long night here in the ICU at Boston Children's Hospital. Baby Jude started to have some respiratory distress again around 6pm yesterday and wouldn't wake up for us very well at all. His CO2 was elevated and his breathing was very labored. After 48 hours on the nasal cannula, he had to go back on CPAP, which failed to assist him as much as he needed so he was switched to BIPAP around midnight to assist his breathing. He is doing a little better this morning and is waking up for us, and we are really hoping that he does well and doesn't have to go back on the ventilator this time. His chest X-ray showed more collapse in his right upper airway and it looked like he was accumulating more fluid around his lungs despite the diuretics he has been receiving. The frequency of his diuretics was increased and he had to receive supplemental potassium due to an electrolyte imbalance. Yesterday afternoon the plan was developed to send him for another bronchoscopy to evaluate the collapsing structures in his upper airway, but that has obviously been canceled. His PICC line has also migrated out of place and he will have to be sedated while they either correct the existing PICC line or replace it altogether.
We are very hopeful that these interventions do the trick and that he progresses forward from here. Going back on the ventilator another time would certainly change the overall game plan. As the team here keeps saying, "he's a fighter, that little Baby Jude". These ups and downs can be highly tumultuous but we know that he is in the care of excellent physicians and nurses and ultimately rests in the arms of the Master Physician who has all power and authority over this little man's life. We pray that God would be with Jude and with all of us as we seek His face during this seemingly never-ending journey. Sometimes it seems that, just when we see light at the end of the tunnel, the light fades and we are reminded that it will be even longer before we are at home with the other children doing the day-to-day things we miss so very much. Thank you all for continuing to help us through this battle, especially by praying for healing in the body of little Baby Jude. We will not grow weary and we will not rest until this battle is over, and we couldn't do it without the love of God and the grace He has shown to our family through each and every one of you. Love to you all from the Pendletons in Boston!

I am reminded of the word's of Paul Jude's namesake when he wrote to the people of God in Galatia;
"Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary." Galatians 6:9
