DOTHAN: Today the National Weather Service held an webinar at Dothan-Houston County EMA Office detailing severe weather risk for Monday. Be alert for watches and warnings as you begin the work week!

UPDATE:

National Weather Service - Severity has been upgraded again to MODERATE. Please begin to prepare today!!

A potentially significant severe weather event is expected to affect the area on Monday afternoon and evening.

2. Storms will move into Southeast Alabama and the Florida Panhandle in the early afternoon
and then move into Southwest Georgia and the Florida Big Bend in the early evening. Storms
should weaken while approaching Interstate 75 toward midnight – though redevelopment is
possible late.
3. The primary threat with these storms will be destructive straight line winds in excess of 70
mph and tornadoes. Some tornadoes in the western half of the region could be significant.
4. Rainfall amounts will be limited, due to the fast movement of the storm system.
5. Convective watches may be necessary by late Monday morning. Tornado watches are the
most likely.
