HOUSTON COUNTY COMMISSION ADMINISTRATIVE MEETING. CHAIRMAN MARK CULVER WAS A NO SHOW AND COMMISSIONER CURTIS HARVEY HANDLED THE MEETING.


The Houston County Commission Chairman makes almost $ 80,000.00 per year. The Commission meets for two meetings and two Administrative Meetings a month. Culver was not in attendance.

Regular Agenda



1.

Request to approve temporary contract with Waste Away Group for disposal of solid waste.


The City of Dothan will close the landfill on or about June 16. The county will use Waste Away on Napier Field Road as a transfer station for the garbage to be transported out of state. When Dothan reopens the landfill Houston County will return to the City of Dothan.

For the first two years the price for Houston County will remain the same.



The City of Dothan will build a new landfill. Houston County Engineer said it will take two years to build the new landfill. Houston County has 5 garbage trucks a day.



The WasteAway contract is for 2 years with a 30 day notice to opt out of the contract.


This item and all items will be voted on at the Houston County Commission regular agenda for Tuesday at 10 AM.




2.

Request to purchase four (4) new copy machines from the Alabama State Bid List.


Houston County Administrator Bill Dempsey said the cost of the service contract is more expensive then purchasing a new machine. With that in mind the commission will purchase new machines at a total cost of $ 18,672.00. There will be a $ 9,000.00 savings cost according to Dempsey.

 



3.

Request to reject and rebid the floor covering for Houston County Administrative Building and the Personnel Building.


The commission will rebid the floor covering for the Administrative Meeting. Carpetland USA was the low bidder and McCord Contract Floors. Due to issues the entire carpet issue has to be rebid.

 



4.

Request to enter into an Agreement with ALDOT to resurface (CR-15) South Park Avenue from Malvern Road to National Road, approximately 3.98 miles.



5.

Request to enter into an Agreement with ALDOT to resurface (CR-44) Glen Lawrence Road from Jordan Avenue to Brackin Road, approximately 4.65 miles.

 



6.

Request to enter into an Agreement with ALDOT to resurface Webb Road from Ross Clark Circle to the Webb Town Limits, approximately 2.78 miles.

 



7.

Request to approve overtime budget by $50,000 due to the recent flood damage in order to work on Fridays and Saturdays.
