DOTHAN: At 12:40 pm Dothan Police did a traffic stop in the 300 block of Beulah Street. One suspect took off on foot and officers gave chase.
Multiple DPD units responded to the area to assist in the pursuit. It is not clear why the suspect fled at this time...
NOTE:
Dothan Police pulled a car over. The people in the car took off out of the car and ran from the police.
The suspect, as he was running, fired a shot. The SUSPECT fired a shot NO POLICE OFFICER ever fired a shot.
When Dothan Police apprehended the suspect and took him into custody the officers checked to make sure the suspect had no weapon and no injury.
It is believed the shot was fired as the suspect was attempting to throw the weapon.
Dothan Police called Dothan Fire to the scene to also check the suspect to make sure he was physically OK. He was thought to be having a seizure but he was OK.
I confirmed with Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish this information. I also listened to the chase and the apprehension. I was actually getting out at a restaurant to eat and carried my portable into the restaurant and listened to the entire call.
A rumor on FACEBOOK was going around that it TOTALLY false. That rumor was someone was shot by law enforcement. NO ONE has been shot.
This is the problem with social media and not knowing what the facts were.
