DOTHAN: Multiple Dothan Police units are on Headland Avenue where there are reports of subject barricaded inside a residence.
At this time all of our information is sketchy. What we understand there were reports of shots fired and the suspect(s) are held up in a house. Area residents are being evacuated.
As more details are available we will updateUPDATED @ 9:11 PM
Suspect description is a black male on West Spring Street.
UPDATED @ 9:41 PM
Houston County Sheriff Deputies have been called to the scene to assist Dothan Police. Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson has dispatched Air One to the scene to assist at the request of Dothan Police.
The situation could be getting under control and we will update. Just heard some radio traffic which indicates that. We will update.
UPDATED @ 9:53 PM
Dothan Police had Dothan Fire Engine 1 ( Central ), Batallion Chief Keith Gasiter and Pilcher's Ambulance stage in the parking lot of Scott Funeral Home on Headland Avenue. NOTE: Scott Funeral Home had nothing to do with the call, it was only a staging locations for EMS where they were a safe distance.
Dothan Police had called Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson and Chief Deputy Tim McDonald for the helicopter but it was cancelled. ( Someone call Dale County Commission Chairman Mark Blakenship - let him know the helicopter was called and responding, but was cancelled. We don't want him mad again!!! Well, never mind I don't care if he get's mad.)
Dothan Police had called members of the Special Response Team ( SRT - the Dothan Police trained snipers ) to respond but they were cancelled.
We have been advised that shots were fired in the area or at a specific location. We do not have all of the details. One person on the street said it was possibly domestic related.
If we get more information we will update.
UPDATED @ 10:13 PM
It is still not clear the full details of the incident. However, what we know is the situation is over. What was first reported to law enforcement was not the entire situation when Police got all of the puzzle put together.
Anyway...no one was hurt, all persons returned to their residences, all EMS returned to station, SRT sent home, Aircraft cancelled, Headland Avenue is open.
