Updated @ 10:55 P.M. Four Deaths Confirmed near Rehobeth due to Tornado

Authorities have confirmed four deaths in the Rehobeth community because of a tornado that touched down at approximately 7:40 p.m. The number of injuries are unknown at this time. Multiple structures are said to be damaged and numerous law enforcement, fire and rescue personnel are working multiple calls for service in most areas south of Dothan, AL. The exact location of the fatalities and other details are being withheld until the next of kin can be notified.


Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza and multiple Houston County Deputies were on the scene and in-service immediately after the tornado touched down. 


Multiple fire departments and rescue squads from throughout Houston County and Dothan are in the area and working multiple scenes at this time.


Dothan Fire and Police Departments are also experiencing a high volume of calls for service due to storm damage.


Authorities are urging everyone to avoid all travel south of Dothan from Southern Junction East to Cottonwood. Multiple trees and power lines are down from the Rehobeth area all the way to Cottonwood and areas South of Ashford and Cowarts.


Alabama Governor Robert Bentley has been notified and advised of the fatalities and damage in Houston County, AL.

Updated: Authorities stated that seven individuals were inside a mobile-home located on Leonard Drive in Rehobeth when a large tree fell onto the mobile-home killing four of the seven occupants inside. The ages and gender of those killed have not been released at this time.


All Rehobeth Schools WILL BE CLOSED tomorrow due to storm damage in the area. Rehobeth Schools are the only Houston County Schools that will be closed.
